Someone is renting out a shared bed in Toronto for $900

In today's episode of sketchy listings in Toronto's rental market, check out this lake-facing bedroom up for rent for $900. While it might seem like a sweet deal, the only caveat is that you'll have to share the queen-size bed with another tenant.

Toronto realtor, Anya Ettinger, recently posted a TikTok regarding the baffling listing which has since garnered nearly 300,000 views over a 24-hour period.

"Looking for an easy-going female to share the master bedroom and the one queen size bed," the listing on Facebook Marketplace reads.

"I have been previously sharing the bedroom which only has one queen size [bed] with a roommate I found on Facebook, and it worked out perfectly well."

@aserealty just when you thought the Toronto rental market couldn’t get any worse, it did. Someone is trying to rent out a space in their queen sized bed in a downtown condo for $900/mo. And the worst part is that someone is actually going to rent this… SEND HELP #rentalmarket #roomrental #torontorentals #rentalcrisis #realestatefail ♬ BGM perfect for item description - Mi-on(みおん)

Along with the shared bed, the listing also says the future tenant will have to share the ensuite bathroom and laundry.

According to the listing, utilities are included, and amenities such as a swimming pool, hot tub, gym, yoga sessions, a playroom, and visitor daytime parking.

Reactions to the sketchy listing ranged from anger to confusion, with many people wondering why the queen-size bed wasn't replaced with two single beds to maximize privacy.

"I rent a two-bedroom apartment by myself, I could look for a roommate because it's expensive but I value my privacy too much...this is insane," one person wrote.

"I can't believe we're at the point of bargaining for a shared room with twin beds," another comment reads.

While some folks encouraged tenants to avoid renting out similar listings, others rightfully pointed out that some people might not have an alternative option, especially considering just how unaffordable the city's rental market has become.
