Morning Brew: Ford denies he had anything to do with Tories' loss, Ontario election brings out the lowest voting turnout ever, remembering the Twilight Zone, expect major delays at Pearson, and Occupy Toronto isn't speaking with police
Despite multiple reports that Mayor Ford's record potentially hurt the Ontario PCs, Rob Ford denied he had anything to do with the Tories losing. Speaking to CBC's Metro Morning, Ford said, "Last time I checked, the Tories never had a seat to begin with in Toronto and my name wasn't on the ballot. And I didn't endorse anyone." I guess that Ford barbecue Hudak attended didn't really mean anything then.
Though it's still too soon to say officially, reports suggest that Ontario had its lowest voting turnout ever this week. Of the roughly 8 million people eligible to vote, only 48 per cent of people actually did. And you can't blame it on the weather since Thursday was a pretty gorgeous. Oh, and don't even think about blaming it on disenchanted youth either. Apparently our youth did get out there in decent supply.
Maybe the Entertainment district is growing up now, but back in the day, when it was still known as part of the Garment District, a club called the Twilight Zone opened and changed the neighbourhood's landscape forever (or for at least 15 years or so).
Travelling through Pearson this long weekend? Well, you can expect major delays, thanks to job action by security workers who are tasked with screening passengers continued for a third straight day. A mediator has been requested to handle the situation, but in the meantime, double-check your flight's status.
