Morning Brew: What does Rob Ford do all day?, the quest for an official Little Ethiopia, farmers' markets seek parking exemption, the Varsity explores the digital life, and more subway closures this weekend
Finally. The answer to what so many us have been wondering: What does Rob Ford do all day? Through the freedom of information request, the Star was able to uncover the mystery and obtained Ford's daily itineraries for his first ten weeks in office. Among the revelations: the guy is busy. He was scheduled to appear at more than 110 events in his first 69 days, though wasn't able to make all of them (Doug Ford came in his place for Ernestine Women's Shelter charity event). He also attended meetings for both his family business, Deco Labels and Tags, and the Etobicoke high school football team he coaches. You've got to admire his time management skills.
EYE writes about Samuel Getachew's quest to have a run-down stretch along the Danforth between Greenwood and Monarch Park Avenues designated as Toronto's official "Little Ethiopia". The piece coincides with this Friday's Ethio T.O., an event at the Musical Gallery that fuses local indie jazz with Ethiopia/Eritrean music.
Not surprisingly, Toronto Councillor Mike Layton is coming to the rescue of Toronto's Farmers' Markets to help them save thousand of dollars in parking fees. Layton is suggesting an annual permit exclusively for selling local produce. Markets have been used to paying a low annual fee, but new changes have transportation officials enforcing a daily charge--one that could put markets out of business. Sunday mornings would never be the same.
This week's Varsity is all about the digital life. The issue examines such wide-ranging tech topics such as "Broadcast Yourself," "How to Internet," "The Death of Journalism," and answer questions like "are computers just a little bit pregnant?"
