Sushi restaurant permanently closing after decades in Toronto

Le Cafe Michi, an intimate restaurant offering whimsical French-inspired Japanese cakes, homestyle plates and beautifully arranged sushi meals has officially announced its closure on its Instagram page.

"Dear valued customers, we are sad to announce Cafe Michi will be closing at the end of this month. We would like to thank you for the support and love over the years and was a pleasure serving to you everyday," read the post.

Customers were saddened and shocked to hear the news, many recalling their favourite memories throughout the year.

"You are our favorite place to eat Japanese comfort food. And delicious cakes!! We will miss you very much. Thank you for serving our community for so many years," read one such comment.

Speaking with blogTO, a representative of Le Cafe Michi said that some of the longtime staff are retiring and that the owner's two children are not going to take over the restaurant.

"They have been helping a lot with the restaurant but it's time for them to leave the flock. And with just the owners, it is difficult to run," they told blogTO.

Fruit shortcakes, English trifle, chiffon and the signature green tea red bean cake were staples from Michi, which fused French technique and Japanese flavour in a delectable bite.

They also sold many homestyle Japanese plates like beef curry, karaage, katsudon and unatama don as well as sushi, maki and sashimi platters.

Cakes were extremely reasonably priced for their craftsmanship, just a mere $35 for an 8-inch chiffon cake.

Located in Scarborough's Pharmacy Plaza, Le Cafe Michi has been serving up these tasty plates for decades and will surely be missed by faithful customers.

The cafe asked followers to keep updated with their account, stating that they will "still be open for cake orders."

That is good news for me and many local residents, who cannot go without Michi's creamy and dreamy blueberry cheesecake.
