Toronto is about to get a cafe all about chai tea

Two sisters are on a mission to introduce Toronto to real chai tea. That's why they're opening Elchi Chai Shop, a new cafe coming soon to 130 Harbord St.

"We love our chai, and there's no chai out there that really tastes like chai," says Sukaina Ebrahim who started Elchi Chai Shop with her sister Sayyeda.

They hope to open some time next month, but might be delayed due to ongoing renovations. Once up and running, they plan to serve chai tea - made with milk, spices and loose leaf tea (never with syrup or powder) - lassi and parothas.

"It's like roti meets croissants," says Sukaina, describing this type of flatbread.

She and her sister are using their mother's parotha recipe and plan to top them with sweet and savoury ingredients, such as pulled beef, butter chicken, bananas and nutella. There will even be a s'mores option on the menu.

I think we all know what we'll be sipping and snacking on this winter.
