The Hideout to close and Taco Bell might be what's next

Music venue and dance-party haven the Hideout is closing its doors for good on October 31. It's been a fixture on Queen Street West since it opened nearly 10 years ago in December 2006.

As we know, the Hideout building at Queen and Denison was sold last year. It apparently went for $5.3 million.

"Queen St West is changing rapidly and it's deep seeded culture of art & music, is under grave threat, as corporate brand names want to take up residency in this trendy neighbourhood," reads the Hideout's news release. "Rumour has it that this corner of Queen St West will be divided up and shared between two corporate branded coffee and fast food chains."

According to a recent AGCO list of liquor license applications, Taco Bell had one such application pending at that address. We reached out to Taco Bell for comment, but the fast food company wouldn't confirm if it was planning to open a location here.

Last year in Chicago, Taco Bell started selling beer, wine and sangria. It's not far fetched to imagine that this concept is coming to Queen West.

As for the Hideout, despite the news of the impending closure, the team behind it says they're planning to reopen in a bigger, but still undisclosed location.
