Bier Markt backtracks on sexist uniforms

Bier Markt is giving its uniform policy a makeover after numerous staff complained about the restaurant's "sexist" dress code, reports CBC today.

According to a CBC News Go Public investigation, Bier Markt switched from gender neutral uniforms on October 5, making it a requirement for female employees to wear a short, blue sleeveless dress and heels or boots. Prior to this, all staff members wore black pants and a golf shirt.

CBC News reports that more than 40 staff members complained and one quit over this policy. After Go Public inquired about the uniforms, however, Cara Operations Limited (the company that owns Bier Markt as well as a slew of other restaurants like Harvey's and Swiss Chalet), said that it would let all employees wear the "male" uniform of jeans, sneakers and a button-down shirt.
