Pizza Gigi reopens

Pizza Gigi back in business

Move over Green Room, the Annex has a new candidate for most unlikely restaurant to reopen in 2011. Pizza Gigi is back in business, and management claims that its recent closure had nothing to do with the drug charges that face owner Salvatore Crimi. "We weren't shut down," manager Rosa Crimi told Post City. "We could have opened the very next day."

Apparently Gigi's remained shuttered post-drug bust so that a few minor renovations could be taken care of, including the installation of a new ceiling. This doesn't sound particularly far-fetched as it was pretty easy to see through the window that some sort of work was being done over the last couple weeks.

Upon reopening yesterday, it appeared to be business as usual, though, as is to be expected, there weren't the normal number of customers. What is a bit of a surprise is that according to Rosa, Salvatore Crimi will still be found around the restaurant as drug charges against him proceed. Cue oregano and mushrooms jokes now...
