GoFundMe campaign started for 16-year-old victim killed in random TTC attack

Toronto is still in a state of shock after 16-year-old Gabriel Magalhaes was fatally stabbed in an unprovoked attack at Keele TTC station on Saturday night, and a fundraiser has been set up to help support the distraught family of the victim.

A GoFundMe page was created on Tuesday morning by Melissa Blow, a friend of the family and colleague of the victim's mother.

"No mother should ever have to bury their child," reads the plea for donations. "Unfortunately for our friend and colleague Andrea Magalhaes, this nightmare has become her reality."

The drive is seeking to raise $50,000, stating that Andrea's "neonatal intensive care unit family is setting up this GoFundMe to help with the costs and burdens of this senseless tragedy. All proceeds will go to the immediate family to help with the bereavement process."

"Gabriel was 16, and he had so many dreams. He has a zest for life like no other. He was loved beyond meaning. Andrea always speaks so highly of both of her boys. She was so proud to be his mother. He leaves behind his mother, Andrea, father, Antonio, brother, Lucas and many family and friends."

"Any donations will be greatly appreciated during this difficult time. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts."

Though the drive was only created Tuesday morning, it has already raised close to $4,000 of its $50k goal, with approximately 70 donors contributing to the goal thus far as of writing.
