Morning Brew: Explosion Cleanup, Krumping Cops, and Free Agency

What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Both the Gardiner and DVP will be shut down from 2am to 2pm on Sunday. The take home message? The 401 will be terrible. Forget about Lakeshore Blvd. Bloor will be nasty. Jarvis will suck. Make plans that don't involve driving. Hopping into Monday morning traffic after being stuck in it on your leisurely Sunday will really hurt.

It's been almost a year, but finally an action plan is getting a kick start to clean up the site of the propane explosion that rocked a north Toronto neighbourhood. Expediency clearly isn't the city's forte.

The jury has made its decision - not guilty. Freedom and a cleared name are being granted to the woman who stood accused of murdering her lesbian lover's boyfriend with an axe. Were an axe not involved, I wonder if we would have seen much if any media coverage on this love triangle murder story.

poppin' vs. krumpin'

Toronto police and local college students are helping keep kids out of trouble - through krumping classes. Krumping (which differs from poppin - see above video for direct comparison) puts them in a safe environment under the supervision of positive role models, gets them free food, and makes them so much cooler when it comes time to strut their stuff at high school dances. Hopefully not to music made up of sampled gun-cocking sounds.

Hate your job? Consider yourself one of the 91.6% Canadians that are lucky enough have one. Unemployment is at an 11-year high, with Ontario taking the brunt of job losses.

And Raptor's superstar Chris Bosh appears to be leaning toward free agency in 2010. Is he looking to leverage himself for a sweetened new contract with Toronto, or is he outta here?
