Your Toronto morning news roundup for Monday April 21st, 2008:

The TTC strike was averted in overtime. Extra time was needed because when placing an order for delivery pizza, TTC reps wanted bacon and the union wanted ham. Then the delivery guy refused to fork over the pizza until he was tipped as much as delivery guys in Ajax and Mississauga are tipped. Many commuters are rejoicing, but others likely still won't crack a smile (warning, foul language within).

Scarborough city councillors have been debating the merits of using a portion of their office expense accounts to produce an enlarged, framed group photo for their local civic centre. If they continue to use paid time to debate the measly $52.90 pitch to the pool, isn't this photo going to end up costing taxpayers much more than $52.90 per councillor?

After being benched for poor performance and having a fit as a result, the "Big Hurt" is no longer a Toronto Blue Jay. I wonder if the 10,000 Frank Thomas bobblehead toys that were to be given away on May 25th have already been produced, or if a quick phone call to China can halt their production.

Are proponents for the Blue 22 Pearson-Union rapid transit project waiting for changes to environmental assessment laws so that they can speed up the approval process and muffle the voices of dissident Weston residents?

A dump truck driver has been charged after his allegedly reckless driving resulted in a serious crash and fatalities on the 400. After blowing a tire and hitting the guardrail, the tailgate of his truck flew off on impact, directly onto a passing passenger vehicle, killing the two elderly occupants.

Finally, we can let the clothes be free to air dry in our backyards (provided you live on ground level) without having to worry about or consult archaic municipal laws banning the practice.
