Following Mastercard's lead in playing hero in a cash-strapped city, BMO is using the city's budget woes as marketing leverage by offering to pay the new Land Transfer Tax when home buyers get a a mortgage through them.
Bottled water is the next target for a tax levy in Toronto. I like this idea. The margins for manufacturers and retailers are huge, and the product and packaging are as wasteful as it gets.

Smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine are on the decline amongst Ontario high school students, but stealing and popping mom's prescription painkillers for recreation has become far more popular.
