Your morning news roundup for Friday October 19th, 2007:

Scramble crossings are being considered for a couple of Toronto's busiest intersections. The fates of Bay & Bloor, and Yonge & Bloor are going to be on city hall's agenda for next Monday.

On a related note, the verdict seems to be in, and pedestrian crossing countdown timers at intersections are being given two thumbs up.

A giant totem pole that was made by an artist with the help of children was soon to be erected but has disappeared from its home in Morningside Park.

Hillbilly heroin may be a little harder for addicts to procure, after the arrest of suspected pharma drug thieves in Oakville yesterday.

A wild police chase that saw an officer dragged for 25m, and a family in a van escape a crash without serious injury, forced the closure of Islington Avenue for much of the day. What's more stunning is the fact that the driver of the stolen truck already has 158 previous criminal convictions and has been barred from driving 4 times already.
