Sheppard Subway Staying Open... For Now

The Sheppard line is staying open... for now. At the emergency meeting held today the TTC's commissioners decided to hold off the subway closure, the fare increase, and the bus route cuts. They also made a decision to delay all planned upgrades and expansion until further notice.

TTC chair Adam Giambrone did mention that the cuts could still happen in the future. The commission is planning on holding a series of public consultations to discuss the Sheppard line closure and the bus route cuts.

The TTC has decided, at least for now, to save money by deferring expenses, rather than cutting existing services. This decision will only save about 4 or 5 million dollars, well short of the $30 million that the commission needs to save.

This means that the line closures could still occur and the fare hike is almost inevitable. The public consultations regarding the route closures are still planned to take place in the next month or so.
