Morning Brew: January 8th, 2007

Your "it was a weird weekend" morning news roundup for Monday January 8th, 2007:

TTC security tape recordings are being reviewed after a woman was stabbed during a botched purse-snatching on the platform of Main subway station. Apparently the robber was attempting to cut the purse strap but stabbed his victim in the process. Are cameras in public spaces appropriate?

Bathurst station TTC riders came to the rescue of a dog that ran away from its Yorkville sitter and somehow ended up on the tracks as a train was approaching. The pooch doesn't know how lucky he is.

A stowaway Costa Rican scorpion managed to sting an airline passenger before it was captured and killed on a flight returning to Pearson. Where's Samuel Jackson when you need him?

An arrest has been made in the Maple Leaf Foods syringe-in-the-ham case. Last fall, the food company recalled meat products after medical syringes were found in their product. From the beginning, the company suspected that an employee was responsible.

There was a violent home invasion in the Dufferin and Bloor area at 10pm on Saturday night. Three masked men stormed a home and slashed the neck of the resident. This incident strikes me as extra creepy - I passed right by the home at the time this was reported to have happened.
