AIDS 2006 Vigil [ - view it larger - ]

Thousands of people gathered at Dundas Square last night, in memory of those that have died from HIV/AIDS. Speakers and performers reminded us of the challenges the world faces in the fight against AIDS. Several candles were lit on stage - each representing a specific community that has been affected by the epidemic. With glowsticks held high, people in the crowd called out the names of the deceased before a moment of silence was observed.

More photographs of the speakers and performers at the vigil can be seen in the slideshow that follows.

The AIDS 2006 Conference ends tomorrow, with the closing session at 11:30am. Watch it live online at Kaiser Network or on CBC Newsworld television.
