Nuking Toronto

I just finished reading Buried Suns, an excellent essay by David Samuels in the June issue of Harper's. In it he mentions the destructive power of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima (13 KT, Nagasaki was 25 KT). Immediately I wondered how a blast that large would affect our city.

Well, the answer is here, thanks to HYDESim, the High-Yield Detonation Effects Simulator. The simple, web-based app overlays the initial destruction of a blast, with the lovable city of your choice.

Pictured above, a 13 Kiloton blast at the corner of York and Wellington. Kinda' puts it all in perspective, don't it?
